3-4-13 Word On Wine Review “To Rhone With Love”
This week Mary and I are Rhone Rangers as we sample two most excellent wines from the Rhone. Our first wine was the 2010 Domaine de la Colinne St. Jean from Vacqueyras $22. This was the standard blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mouvedre and a nicely made example of what one can find in the Rhone!
Our second wine was the 2010 Domaine du Colombier Crozes-Hermitage Cuvee Gaby. Just to parse this out…Domaine du Colombier is the producer, Crozes-Hermitage the area in the Northern Rhone and Cuvee Gaby the name of this particular wine. This was made of 100% Syrah and would set you back $35. Unlike many new world Syrahs this was delightfully well balanced and nuanced. As a non Syrah enthusiast I liked this very much!
