Hello and welcome to WBJC’s brand-new website! As an Internet junkie, I’m very excited about our new site and the station’s recent forays into social media. If you’re on Twitter and/or Facebook, please join us there; the more fans and followers we have, the merrier.
The debate about how to make classical music more “relevant” (oh, that poor, over-used word) is never-ending. I feel that embracing technology is a big step toward this goal. New media can be a great help in making this great music a part of everyday life, not a museum piece or something that one has to spend lots of money to enjoy. By giving our listeners new ways to connect with WBJC, we can keep you apprised of what’s going on here at the station and in the arts world in general. You’ll also get to know the staff a bit better, and we do have a rather interesting cast of characters around this place. From me, you can expect lots of posts about cats, antiques, food, books, and, of course, classical music. I can’t wait to start rehearsals with Lyric Opera of Baltimore – I’m in the chorus of “La Traviata” this fall – and will give you a behind-the scenes peek at what it’s like to sing with a professional opera company.
