The Passion of Joan of Arc
When Renée, sometime known as “Maria”, Falconetti’s long hair was cut off, she wept. That was the beginning of her journey in Carl Theodor Dreyer’s 1928 film The Passion of Joan of Arc. Composer, Richard Einhorn wa
s so captivated by the film he wrote music to accompany it called, Voices of Light. I hope you enjoyed and were moved by last Saturday’s Vocalise when I played a portion of Einhorn’s powerful cantata.
This Friday through Sunday Maestra, Marin Alsop will conduct the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra with the Baltimore Choral Arts Society in Voices of Light accompanying The Passion of Joan of Arc.
