Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lynn Nottage makes another appearance on the Everyman stage in Baltimore, this time in her early, semi-autobiographical reverie, Crumbs from the Table of Joy. 

Set against the backdrop of a 1950s Brooklyn as recalled in the vivid, personal memories of then-17-year-old Ernestine Crump, the play follows her as she and her eclectic family navigate grief, loss, hope, change, faith, passion, and joy–while the the struggles of the past give way to an uncertain, but promising, future.

Playing January 28th through February 25th, the production is directed by veteran theater-maker, and Nottage aficionado, Reginald L. Douglas. He joined me to speak about the play, its continued relevance across a broad range of experiences, his enduring love for Nottage’s nuanced and surprising characters, and much more.
