Last chance for CODE SWITCH at Theatre Project

By Gavin Witt | Posted in Interviews, Staff Blogs, WBJC Programs | Comments Off on Last chance for CODE SWITCH at Theatre Project

The Sisters Freehold world premiere production of Shakill Jamal’s hilarious, provocative new play The Code Switch enters its final weekend at Baltimore Theater Project–with performances Thursday July 27th through Sunday July 30th.

More information and tickets are here or at the Theatre Project website.

Jamal’s play, which he both wrote and directed, uses multiple theatrical devices and mixes in humor, satire, music, and audience immersion to explore the sometimes-sensitive, enduring issue of code switching in its many forms. At heart, the playwright and the play engage with their community to pose thoughtful, probing, and even troubling questions of authenticity. When, where, and how are we our most authentic selves? What does that look like? And what does it cost to mask or minimize that authenticity to get along, to get ahead–or just to get by?

With its combination of joyful creativity and timely satire, The Code Switch has generated considerable response and lively conversation; so you can count on each performance to be followed by a moderated discussion.

Hear more about it in the words of the production’s director and associate director.
