Lila Rose Kaplan’s THE MAGICIAN’S DAUGHTER at Spooky Action Theater
Earlier, I had the welcome opportunity to chat briefly with playwright Lila Rose Kaplan, whose intimate but magical, profound but wonderfully mischievous new play, The Magician’s Daughter, will have a free public reading on Monday, February 13th at 7pm at Washington, DC’s Spooky Action Theater.
We chatted about the play’s origins out of a silent retreat that channeled Lila Rose’s gregarious communication habits onto the page; about the play’s (loose) inspiration in the principal family of Shakespeare’s The Tempest–yes, this play has its very own Prospero and Miranda; and about the very special resonance that the father-daughter, parent-child relationship had for the author working on the play, without even knowing it.
Those intrigued and interested in hearing the play aloud, and offering your own thoughts in response, can make free reservations online at spookyaction.org. Or simply show up at the door for the 7pm reading on Monday, February 13th downstairs at the Universalist National Memorial Church: 1810 16th St. NW Washington, DC.
Come early for the signature Toast Bar–a selection of breads and spreads and toasters that invites you to curate your very own toast experience… Doors open at 6.30pm!
