An African American classic at Chesapeake Shakespeare Company
When A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry had its debut in 1959, it was the first play written by a Black woman to be produced on Broadway. In 1983, Frank Rich, writing in The New York Times, said A Raisin in the Sun “changed American theater forever.” I spoke with actor and Chesapeake Shakespeare Company’s Associate Artistic Director and actor, Gerrad Alex Taylor, about CSC’s current production.
