MOZART Oboe Concerto MENDELSSOHN Symphony No. 3, “Scottish”
We’re opening the season with three immortal masterworks, beginning with the gripping Egmont Overture by Ludwig van Beethoven. We present the return of a Baltimore musical icon, oboist Katherine Needleman, here performing the Oboe Concerto by Wolfgang Mozart. And we finish with one of Felix Mendelssohn’s greatest works, his Symphony no. 3, so called Scottish. This glorious symphony was inspired by a visit to the ruins of the chapel of the 16th-century Holyrood Palace, residence of royals as far back as Mary, Queen of Scots.
To fill we used new recordings by BSO principals and something from the orchestra as well.
