7-21-14 Word On Wine 2 Alsatians!
Did you ever hear the one about 2 Alsatians who went into a bar? I didn’t either nor am I likely to. However, I did hear and taste two really nice wines from a very obscure corner of Alsace which I really loved! The area is called Moselle and it is the most northern winery in France being right near Luxembourg! The Winery is Chateau de Vaux and I loved both the white and the red!
1)2013 Moselle Blanc Ley Gryphées. $18. A really nice blend of 30% Auxerrois, 30% Muller Thurgau (a crossing of Riesling and Chasselas), 30% Tokay Pinot Gris and 10% Gewurztraminer. Great acid nice minerality. Bone Dry! Yum!
2)2012 Moselle Pinot Noir – “Les Hautes Bassières”. This was a cheeky little Pinot which had tons of cherries great tannins and at $22 a reasonable price tag. Buy either of these with your eyes closed!
