6-10-13 Word On Wine Review Champagne!
Being in the wine review business finally pays off big time! A few weeks ago I was fortunate enough to taste some Champagne from Champagne Philippe Gonet a small producer in the Cotes Des Blancs area in the village of Le Mesnil-Sur-Oger…even the name of the village sounds fabulous! Champagne Philippe Gonet has been in the biz since 1830 (!!!) and frankly the brother and sister team of Chantal and Philippe Gonet are carrying on the family tradition in grand style.
1)2009 Gonet Grand Reserve. 60% Pinot Noire, 10% Pinot Meunier and 30% Chardonnay. $68. Like all the Gonet wines this was aged in stainless steel and like all of them it was clean and crisp with great acidity.
2)Champagne Philip Gonet Brut Rose. $75! I realize this isn’t cheap but if you want to drink real Champagne from a fine boutique producer this is about the right price.
