All that GLITTERS at Everyman Theatre
Baltimore’s Everyman Theatre will launch a new initiative this November, a play reading series entitled Script Tease (very clever, y’all) dedicated to early development of Baltimore-based or affiliated playwrights.
First up, on Monday, November 4th, is a new play by R. Eric Thomas, Glitter in the Glass, directed by Gerrad Alex Taylor. The reading itself is at 7pm, with tickets PWYW. It’s preceded by a cocktail social hour starting at 6pm, and will be followed by a Q&A with the playwright. So here’s a chance to enjoy a civilized sip, chat with friends and neighbors, hear a new play read to you aloud, and then speak with the writer about the process.
The play itself began as an impulse, or a set of questions, in the aftermath of Baltimore taking down a series of Confederate monuments, but also prompted reflections on the author’s part both civic and solitary. It delves into issues from the political and community-wide to the personal, as the creator at the heart of the story wrestles with artistic block, family complications, and other challenges large and small. And ranging from the family home to the span of Past, Present, and Future. Thorny enough issues, but brought to life with the playwright’s signature blend of humor, acerbic wit, and probing thoughtfulness. And, of course, theatricality.
As you can hear from the author in our conversation, here:
