Getting hysterical with Summer at the Center
2024 heralds the revival of the Summer at the Center arts festival at Towson University’s College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC)–for the first time in nearly 20 years.
This festival offers a celebration of, as well as a tribute to, Baltimore’s vibrant artistic tapestry and COFAC’s long history as a part of it. Spread out among the Center for the Arts’ numerous theaters, concert halls, classrooms, and dance studios, the festival will showcase performances from Towson University departments/student groups and the wider Baltimore professional arts community.
Summer at the Center 2024 is scheduled to run from June 13 – 30.
One featured event taking place during the festival will be a reading of Hysteria, a new play by Towson alumnus Eddie Stockman (directed by faculty member Sache Satta). The free reading at 7pm on June 29th in the Studio Theater at Center for the Arts brings to life the hilariously chaotic mayhem that grips the Far-Flung Acres H.O.A. when some of their residents turn up presumed dead.
The playwright joined me to talk about the piece and its comedically macabre inspiration; you can hear the conversation here:
