On this day we celebrate the 150th birthday of Sergei Rachmaninoff. The Baltimore Symphony did some excellent recordings of his music with David Zinman back in the day. The Symphonic Dances is particularly spectacular…and there is nothing wrong with Leon Fleisher playing the Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini with George Szell and the Cleveland Orchestra. I threw in some Piazzolla and Bernstein for good measure.
