1-20-18 Music in Maryland
A bit of everything this evening! BSO Music Director Marin Alsop conducting two orchestras other than the BSO in Bartok and Prokofiev. Sounds nice! It was time to revisit the very fine live recording of Mahler 6 with David Zinman and the BSO and add a small twist. When Zinman recorded the work it had the scherzo second and the andante third. Having heard the work performed live recently by both Marin Alsop with Baltimore and the Berlin Philharmonic with Simon Rattle they have andante second and scherzo third. Mahler was ambiguous on this point. As a point of personal preference I prefer Andante then scherzo…so I have taken the liberty of switching the order of the movements!
