1-13-14 Word On Wine…Rieslings Old and New!
This week Mary and I review an old world blend including Riesling and a new world varietal Riesling! We each tasted two different wines…Mary the first and I the second.
1)2012 Meyer Fonne Edelzwicker from alsace france. $16 for a liter! Edelzwiker is the Alsatian name for a blend of noble grapes. In this case we had Pinot Blanc, Muscat, Chasselas and Riesling. Considering that most wines from Alsace have a profile that I like how could you go wrong.
2)2012 Cave Springs Riesling. Niagara Penninsula, Ontario, Canada. $16. Having grown up in Canada I remember well just how horrible Canadian wine was back in the day. These days Canada is producing not just amazing Ice Wines but some very fine table wines as well. This was an off-dry Riesling with very nice acidity to balance the sweetness. Goes with just about anything or nothing.
Check out our show and these wines!
