9-9-13 Word On Wine Review 2 Fabulous Whites!
This week we are back to my choices though Mary has tasted one of these wines in the past.
1)1998 Vina Tondonilla Reserva. The producer is R. Lopez de Heredia. This a white Rioja and the cepage was 90% Viura and 10% Malvasia Blanca. $40. Yes that sounds like a lot but this wine has a lot to give back in exchange for the cash. First off don’t believe that whites don’t age well because many whites of quality will age very nicely. This wine turned the most beautiful amber color and had enormous body, great resin and depth of flavor. I thought it was worth the money even if you only try it once. (I have bought a few bottles of this!)
2)2008 Bulles. Touraine Sparkling wine, traditional method. 80% Chenin Blanc, 20% Chardonnay. $18. Buy with your eyes closed but drink with them open so you can watch the bubbles make their hypnotic music. The label says it all…this wine is a party in your mouth and at $18…your wallet. A nice alternative to Prosecco and Cava.
