9-23-13 Word On Wine Review 2 Albarinos One Local One Not!
Albarino is becoming a popular grape! Up until recently the Burgans Albarino was the brand most often seen in stores and wine bars, but these days Albarino can be seen from as far away as California and as close as Westminster Maryland! One reason this grape does so well in so many places is that it has a nice thick skin. This enables Albarino to withstand Maryland pests which are rather substantial in the Summer. Mary tasted a classic old world Albarino from Spain and I tasted one from Maryland.
1)2011 Cepas Vellas Albarino de Ferreiro. $46. Why $46 dollars…well perhaps the fact that these vines are around 200 years old would account for it. MZ loved this wine and felt it would be great for a fabulous seafood meal. I can’t wait to try it.
2)2011 Albarino Old Westminster Winery. Yes indeed set in beautiful Carol County $26.50. This was a nice mixture of old world and new. It had nice old world acid and a bit of brine with high end new world fruit. You can order Old Westminster Winery’s wines through their web site or at your local wine store. http://oldwestminster.com/wines/ Give it a shot…but first check out our show!
