Birthdays
This past weekend, we lost a couple of great musicians. sir Colin Davis, longtime conductor of the London symphony orchestra (in fact, it’s longest-term music director) died at the age of 85, and Adolphe Herseth, long time principal trumpet for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and considered one of the finest trumpeters in America died at the age of 91.
This week, we celebrate the birthday of a few notable people in music:
Apr 15: Sir Nevelle Marriner (b. 1924)
Johann Friederich Fasch (b.1688)
Apr 16: Dennis Russell Davies (b. 1944)
Apr 17: Artur Schnabel (b. 1882)
Gregor Piatigorsky (b. 1903)
Apr 18: Franz von Suppe (b. 1819)
Leopold Stokowski (b. 1882)
Apr 19 Germaine Tailleferre (b. 1892)
Murray Perahia (b. 1947)
That’s just for the weekdays, and I’m sure I missed a couple, but we’ll try to remember them musically on WBJC, hope you can join me!
